Personally, I have a problem with the State saying “It’s against the law to kill someone so we’re going to kill you”. That doesn’t make sense in my book. The recent case of Christa Pike’s attempted execution in Tennessee is just another example of the idiocy of these pathetic attempts to terminate a person’s life with injections. Her execution failed and she’s been rendered a vegetable, on a respirator for who knows how long. If you’re going to resort to the barbaric, bring back the guillotine!! Please! There are no unsuccessful executions with the guillotine – it works every time and is VERY inexpensive to build.
Why not make the killer work the rest of their days for restitution to the family and community of the person killed? They could make license plates or anything that generates money for those who’ve lost a loved one. It won’t make up for the loss, but it might serve as a deterrent. Speaking of deterrence, if we persist in State executions, then using the guillotine should have plenty of public exposure including live broadcasts to remind people of the consequences of their actions.
